Common Questions / FAQIs it true that according to studies published in the Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association (JAVMA) that over 40% of microchipped pets can't be found in any database?
Yes.
Are the individual microchips that I purchase registered to me?
Yes. Unlike many of the other microchip suppliers, at 911PetChip™ we PRE-REGISTER every individual chip to the person we are selling them to (Veterinarian or Rescue), and that this information is readily available BEFORE the chip even leaves our company. This helps insure that 100% of ALL our chips sold by us are registered. While we strongly encourage that the pet owner also register the chip, if this does not occur, at least the chip will be traceable to the seller of the chip (Veterinarian or Rescue).
How do I register the microchip? If you are a Veterinarian or rescue center, you don't have to register the microchip. Upon purchase of a chip from 911PetChip™, we register every single chip to you prior to delivery.
If you are a pet owner, although the chip is PRE-REGISTERED to the clinic that sold you the microchip, you must register the microchip to your pet with your contact information so that it can do the job it is designed to do. Go here to Register Your Pet's Chip now! How much does it cost to register the microchip when you purchase a 911PetChip™? Nothing. It is absolutely free for life and there are no fees to update a registration for a change of address or phone number. 911PetChip™, in collaboration with FreePetChipRegistry.com, provides the only truly free pet microchip registration database. Further, FreePetChipRegistry™ maintains a non-solicitation policy: your information will not be sold to any third parties, and other than opt-in pet insurance banners inside of your FreePetChipRegistry™ account, you will not be solicited for anything as a result of registering your pet(s) at FreePetChipRegistry™!
Free Registration helps insure that 100% of ALL are chips sold by us are registered. How much does it cost to register the microchip from anyone else? Many suppliers of microchips also maintain fee-based registries. They lead you to believe that they sell inexpensive chips, but you must also consider that they have a fee based registry. These commercial registries typically have a” low” annual fee of $9.95 to $19.99, or up to $49.95 for a lifetime fee. Some of the commercial registries charge an additional fee just to update a registration for something as simple as a change of address or telephone number. Other registries claim to be free for life, instead they charge "maintenance fees" should a registrant need to update any information. At 911PetChip™ we don't do anything to put YOUR CLIENT'S PET AT RISK. There are no extra fees for anything. If the registry fees are zero for life, that cost savings can be split between the Vet and the pet owner and everyone wins! At 911PetChip™, the cost of the chip is all you and your client will ever pay for. How long does the microchip last? The microchip has no power supply, battery, or moving parts. It is designed with an operating life of over 20 years and is guaranteed for the life of the animal. Once injected, the microchip is anchored in place as a thin layer of connective tissue forms around it. The chip requires no care. It does not pass through or out of the body. Who is qualified to inject the microchip? Although the laws vary by state as to who can legally inject microchips into pet, you should have a Veterinary professional perform the procedure. Veterinarians, and Veterinarian Technicians, are trained and familiar with microchip delivery systems and are most qualified to perform the procedure. How does a microchip system work? Pet microchips are very small, about the size of a grain of rice, and are inserted subcutaneously between their shoulder blades. Inserting the microchip is quick and safe, similar to a routine vaccination given by your veterinarian. A pet microchip is a radio frequency infrared devise (RFID) know as a transponder. It is not a GPS tracker. A scanning device reads the pet’s unique identification number and displays it. The facility that scans your pet can then enter the microchip number into the Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool (sponsored by the American Animal Hospital Association) at www.PetMicrochipLookup.org. This will determine where your pet is registered and they can contact us directly so we can reunite you with your pet. Do we sell a Universal Scanner (125, 128 and 134.2kHz) that reads all companion animal microchips currently sold anywhere? Yes! I have customers in Europe. Do you have a microchip that complies with overseas regulations? All 911PetChips™ have a 15 digit ID that is ISO compliant and accepted for entry into all European Union countries and in most other countries around the world. Does the procedure hurt the animal? Although the microchip needle is larger than a typical vaccine needle, animals do not over react to it. Anesthesia is not required or recommended. What is the best age to inject the chip? The chips can be injected as early as eight weeks. Of course, the injection can also be done at any time after that regardless of the animals age. Where is the injection site in dogs and cats? Dogs and cats are injected between the shoulder blades with a deep subcutaneous (under the skin) delivery of the chip. Do you sell a microchip for use in ferrets, snakes, turtles, and other exotic pets? Yes. The same chip used in dogs and cats is fine for use in almost all other species. The implant sites vary depending upon the animal, but most have standard injection sites. |
