Everything vets, clinic managers, and pet owners ask us. No fluff. No hidden answers.

Everything about how our chips work and the standards they meet.
A pet microchip is a tiny RFID tag, about the size of a grain of rice, implanted under your pet's skin between the shoulder blades. It contains no battery, no GPS, and no tracking — just a unique ID number that lasts for your pet's lifetime.
If your pet is ever found, a vet, shelter, or finder scans the chip with a universal reader and looks up the ID number in the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool. If the chip is registered with FreePetChipRegistry™, the lookup returns our 24/7/365 toll-free hotline along with the date the registration was last updated.
When the finder calls us, we initiate Found Pet Alerts™ before the call ends. Both the primary and secondary contact receive automated phone calls, text messages, and emails letting them know their pet has been found — along with the finder's name (or organization), phone number, and email address. You contact the finder directly to arrange your reunion.
Yes. Every microchip we sell is ISO 11784/11785 certified by the International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR). Each has a unique 15-digit chip number and operates at 134.2 kHz. All of our microchips meet the global standard required for international travel.
ISO 11784/11785 microchips are the only microchips recommended by:
- American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) - American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) - Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) - World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) - American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) - Humane World for Animals (HSUS) - And many others.
911PetChip™ uses a standard 12-gauge needle and chip — best for dogs and larger animals. 911TinyChip™ uses a smaller 16-gauge needle and chip (which actually fits inside the standard 12-gauge needle) for a less invasive implantation — ideal for cats, kittens, exotic pets, and smaller breeds. Both chips meet ISO 11784/11785 certification and ship with free lifetime registration for ANY brand of microchip via FreePetChipRegistry™. 911TinyChip™ is our fastest-growing SKU because clients appreciate a smaller injection for their cats.
Yes. 911PetChips can be read by any universal scanner. Our chips operate at 134.2 kHz with ISO 11784/11785 standards, which means every universal scanner manufactured in the last 15+ years reads them — including scanners from HomeAgain, Avid, PetLink/Datamars, and others.
For the pet's lifetime — typically 20+ years. The chips have no battery and no moving parts, so there's nothing to fail.
No. Our goal at 911PetChip™ is to get lost pets home as quickly and safely as possible. That's it! Stick to the basics. Keep everything up front, simple, and as user-friendly as possible. No tricks, no gimmicks, no upselling — just get lost pets home!
Public pricing. No quote forms. No hidden fees.
$9.95 per chip when bought in a 20-pack ($199.00 total). 911TinyChip™ (16-gauge) is $10.95 per chip in a 20-pack ($219.00 total). That's wholesale pricing for veterinary clinics — no contract, no minimum order, no hidden fees. Free lifetime registration for ANY brand of microchip is included with every chip.
No. The price you see is the price you pay. Free lifetime registration for ANY brand of microchip through FreePetChipRegistry™ is included. There are no annual fees, no enrollment fees, no premium membership tiers, and no charges for updating contact information.
Yes. We offer deeply discounted pricing for rescues, shelters, low-cost spay/neuter organizations, government agencies, and other animal welfare groups. Call (818) 445-3022 or email admin@911petchip.com for a free quote.
We don't charge pet owners to register, renew, or update their pet's information. Most competitors generate significant revenue from one-time enrollment fees and annual renewal fees charged after the chip is sold. We make our money from the chip — not the database. The result: lower combined chip + registration costs for clinics, and meaningful lifetime savings for pet owners.
How registration works — and why it stays free forever.
Yes. FreePetChipRegistry™ never charges to register a pet, update contact information, transfer ownership, or report a lost or found pet. No annual fees, no premium tiers, no lifetime upgrade fees. Free is free, for the entire life of the pet.
FreePetChipRegistry™ is the lifetime registration partner for 911PetChip™. Visit freepetchipregistry.com to register any pet's chip — including chips from competitors like HomeAgain, Avid, AKC Reunite, PetLink, and 24PetWatch. The service is free, the database is searchable 24/7/365, and FreePetChipRegistry™ is a Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry in the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool.
Every 911PetChip™ is pre-registered to the purchasing organization in FreePetChipRegistry™ before your order ships. This means even if a pet owner forgets to add their personal information after implant, the chip is still traceable back to the implanting clinic. It's an extra safety layer that ensures 100% of our chips are registered from day one.
We keep it simple and flexible. There are several ways to register:
Option 1: Staff registration Your staff registers each microchip on behalf of clients inside your account at freepetchipregistry.com. This ensures 100% compliance.
Option 2: Registration card + barcode stickers Each microchip ships with a registration card and six (6) barcode stickers. Peel a sticker with the microchip number and place it on the registration card. The card includes simple online self-registration steps. *Note: not all clients will complete this step.*
Option 3: Toll-free assistance line If you allow clients to self-register online, some may need assistance. They can call our toll-free number and we'll register the chip for them.
Option 4: Bulk Microchip Upload Use the Bulk Microchip Upload tool to register chips on behalf of clients. Every veterinary clinic, rescue, and shelter has this tool inside their FreePetChipRegistry™ account.
Option 5: Auto-upload via FTP integration Auto-upload registrations through your veterinary software using our FTP Integration. The FTP works with any veterinary software brand and uploads new pet registrations daily, eliminating double data entry. *(FTP Integration Guide available upon request.)*
Any of these options ensures every pet is properly registered and protected. Questions? Reach out anytime.

Most of our customers used to use HomeAgain. Here's how the switch works.
Simple — stop paying HomeAgain's per-chip registration fees on your remaining inventory. Register your remaining HomeAgain chips for free in FreePetChipRegistry™ instead. Once HomeAgain stops collecting registration fees, they stop auto-shipping new chips. You don't even need to call them.
Most clinics switch over a 30–90 day window as old inventory depletes.
Example: with two boxes (50 microchips) of HomeAgain chips left in inventory, switching to FreePetChipRegistry™ saves $19.99 per registration × 50 microchips = $999.50 of cost savings on inventory alone. Going forward, 911PetChip™ runs $9.95–$10.95 per chip including Free Lifetime Registration, instead of paying HomeAgain a registration fee every time a chip ships.
No transfer needed. Existing HomeAgain, Avid, AKC Reunite, PetLink, 24PetWatch, or other chips remain registered with their original registry — that doesn't change. From the date of your switch, new patients receive 911PetChip™ chips with free FreePetChipRegistry™ registration. Universal scanners read all brands, so lost-pet recoveries work seamlessly regardless of which chip a pet has.
No. If your team already implants HomeAgain or other microchips, they can implant 911PetChip™ with zero learning curve. Same implantation technique, same sterile pouch packaging, same one-step process. We include a quick reference card in each shipment.
Most clinics using HomeAgain, PetLink, or AKC Reunite pay 56–101% more per combined chip + registration than 911PetChip™. Clinics still using AVID typically pay over 200% more.
HomeAgain example: A clinic selling 20 chips/month (240/year) saves approximately $2,410/year switching to 911PetChip™ — $9.95 per chip including registration, vs. $19.99 per HomeAgain registration = $10.04/chip savings × 240 chips = $2,410/year.
For 911TinyChip™, the same clinic saves approximately $2,170/year — $10.95 per chip including registration, vs. $19.99 per HomeAgain registration = $9.04/chip savings × 240 chips = $2,170/year.

A microchip is permanent ID — no battery, no GPS, no real-time tracking. It identifies your pet when scanned by a vet or shelter. A GPS tracker is a separate device on a collar that tracks location in real time, but it can fall off, run out of battery, or break. Most vets recommend both: a chip for permanent ID and a tracker for active location. We sell chips, not trackers.
